It’s 2011 and Macchiarini is revolutionizing transplant medicine through his ground-breaking alternative to organ donation. To desperate patients Macchiarini’s plastic windpipes were the miracle they had longed for. But Macchiarini lied about his research and all but one of his patients endured excruciating deaths. And the only surviving patient had their plastic windpipe removed.

At the same time Macchiarini is also a brazen liar in his love life. Benita Alexander, Macchiarini’s one-time fiancé, recounts the astounding story of his web of lies in which he claimed renowned public figures like the Pope, the Clintons, the Obamas, Putin, and even Elton John were at his beck and call.

Featuring the courageous families of his victims, his former colleagues turned whistleblowers and never before heard revelations, this series follows the unrelenting fight to bring Macchiarini to justice. A cautionary tale of power, love, deception and betrayal.

Jon joined the brilliant edit team to work on the third and final episode.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT MURDERS

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT MURDERS

Channel 4  &  Sundance Now   –   4x 1hr

WINNER – True Crime Awards 2024

This captivating true crime series uunravels the chilling chronicles of four flight attendants brutally murdered during the 1970s and 1980s in Texas – Jeannie, Cheryl, Beverley, and Jeeta. Working for the same airline, their hauntingly similar deaths raise disturbing questions. While Jonathan Reed, a convicted rapist, was found guilty of the initial slaying, three subsequent murders occurred while he was incarcerated.

Across four compelling episodes, the narrative examines whether a potentially erroneous conviction has incarcerated an innocent man for four decades while another malevolent culprit remains elusive. Expert investigators and legal minds from both sides meticulously re-examine evidence and reconstruct timelines. This series intimately portrays these women, whose lives were tragically disrupted and through poignant interactions with their bereaved families, the agony of enduring decades of uncertainty comes to light, alongside the daunting prospect of appeals that might liberate a convicted murderer.

As modern DNA techniques and policing techniques come into play, the ultimate truth behind each woman’s fate is sought. Amidst a rich backdrop of archive footage revealing the heyday of American air travel, the series unveils the era’s newfound freedoms and glamour, exploring how airlines exploited the sexuality of their female staff for considerable marketing impact.

THE MAN WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE

THE MAN WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE
Sky   –  4x 1hr
Nominated for the Official Selection of the 62nd Monte-Carlo Television Festival’s prestigious Golden Nymph Award.

In 1986 the Prime Minister of Sweden, Olof Palme, was assassinated on a busy street in Stockholm. The murder sent shockwaves around the world, but years of police investigations amounted to very little. That is, until a former Swedish diplomat accidentally discovered the personal files of the late best-selling crime writer Stieg Larsson, author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The files reveal Larsson had spent a decade investigating the murder, and before his sudden death in 2004 was on the brink of a huge breakthrough. This is the shocking true story of Europe’s most high-profile assassination – and the people determined to get to the truth.

SECRETS OF THE HUMAN ZOOS

SECRETS OF THE HUMAN ZOOS

Channel 4   –   1hr
As the colonial reach of the West spread accross the world, millions of Europeans and Americans became fascinated with a new form of entertainment that brought the cultures of the world to their doorstep – at least particcular versions of them.

This deeply strange but hugely popular entertainment was an industry of its own and has been all but forgotten despite the regular exploitation, and often trafficking, of the shows’ stars.

In her first documentary, acclaimed Somali-British novelist Nadifa Mohamed takes us on a remarkable journey, recreating what it was like to live in a human zoo. She unearths hidden documents, discovers never before broadcast early film and audio of the performers and tracks down their descendants. Then, in a shocking climax, Nadifa reveals how they were used for pseudo scientific race experiments – and exposes how some of their remains can be found in museums to this day.

Between 1952 and 1960, Britain fought a vicious war in Kenya against the Mau Mau – a movement fighting for Kenyan independence from colonial rule. It was an exceptionally bloody conflict, with atrocities committed on both sides. For decades, however, many of the worst abuses carried out by British colonial forces have been kept hidden.

Featuring testimony from some of the last remaining Mau Mau survivors, the film combines recon, archive and new documentary evidence to give for the first time a full picture of how systemic torture was used and authorised by British officials.

THE REAL MANHUNT: THE NIGHT STALKER

THE REAL MAN HUNT: THE NIGHT STALKER

ITV   –   1hr

For 17 years, a serial rapist known as ‘The Night Stalker’ terrorised the elderly population of South London. Yet although the perpetrator is believed to have committed over 100 offences, the case went largely underneath the public radar – a fact many attribute to the relative invisibility of the elderly victims.

Featuring interviews with senior detectives who worked on the case, this film unravels the hidden story behind the 17 year hunt for the Night Stalker – a story featuring agonising near misses, allegations of racism and a litany of police mistakes.

Finally, the film brings to life how how a 17 day stakeout – one of the largest the Met police has ever staged – finally brought the offender to justice.

ARABIA with Levison Wood

ARABIA with Levinson Wood   –   TV Series

Sky Vision  |  Discovery Channel   –   1x 1hr

Levison Wood immerses himself in the worlds and cultures he visits like no other travel guide. In his fifth series with Sky Vision, he once again embarks on a rarely ventured route through challenging environments into remote corners of a little-understood land. Arabia. Beautifully filmed and with the warm and engaging Lev as our guide, Arabia tells the real story of the Middle East through its people. The series explores the lives and hopes of an eclectic range of characters – Syrian grandmothers, Iraqi snipers, shepherds, drug dealers, freedom fighters and nomads – and we hear Levison reflect throughout on how his preconceptions may have changed or remained during his most extraordinary adventure yet. With his elite military training, Levison has the necessary skills to tackle the very toughest challenges. And while he uses these skills to access remote communities and potentially hostile urban worlds, this is far from a simple survivalist story. Instead, Lev puts the people and the cultures he encounters at the heart of every story. Arabia is his most gripping, nuanced and ultimately heart-warming series to date, with majestic landscapes and ancient histories providing the backdrop to a fascinating and authentic depiction of the cultural diversity of the Middle East. From Iraq, the Gulf States, Oman and Yemen to Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Israel and Syria Levison ends his journey on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Lebanon.

With all episodes edited concurrently, Jon cut Levison’s trip from Oman, sneaking into Yemen via the back door. Wood’s mission is to immerse himself in the lives of locals and challenge the myths and stereotypes that plague this ancient land.
